Heidi, Sajjona's Mom, sent this update:
Sajjona was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) after birth. She was only expected to live “2 weeks if you are lucky”. However, God and Sajjona had a different plan. Sajjona is now 8 1/2 years old as of April 3rd. She enjoys her family, being outside, sensory activities, classical music, art and lots of movement activities. She laughs, smiles and touches peoples face to show love and reaches out to give hugs! Sajjona has lot of in home therapies and recently has started Dynamic Movement intervention. She has twister cables to support her physical therapy and DMI. She continues to build her vocabulary at her own pace and has about 6 words ( they said she would never talk) Dada, Momma, Sayge (her sister), poop, her newest word: move. She shakes her head yes and no to questions. Sajjona does everything in her own time and in her own way. She now weighs 53lbs and is 3 feet 6 in tall…Her kidney “are perfect” coming from a recent appointment whereas at 10 months old she had 18 cysts on them. God is our ultimate healer and we keep our faith. Sajjona is a hard worker and there is nothing we don’t think she can’t do. Trisomy 18 does not define her. She is an overcomer and overachiever. Sajjona is thriving and has brought so much love to all that have met her but especially to her family. Every child is an individual with their own set of footprints. Not all Trisomy 18 children are the same. They are their own people. The only surgery she had had was a feeding tube placed. Sajjona is homeschooled but has many teachers and therapists that support her. She also enjoys Sunday school and homeschool club.
